Ten on Tuesday

1. My baby slept in her own room for the first time last night. Truth be told we could have moved her a lot sooner since she’s been sleeping through the night for quite some time now…but she’s my last baby…{waaaaaaa 🙁 she’s growing too fast!} and I wanted to keep her in our room for as long as I could. She did sleep 12 hours last night. So I’m a happy mama….

A new tradition

April 22, 2011 by Sara Haynes 10 Comments

Do you have a certain recipe that you just can’t seem to master?
Mine is Hot Cross Buns.
(and banana bread. but that’s a whole other tangent)
Anyways,
My mom made Hot Cross Buns every Good Friday.
It was tradition.
In fact I was talking with my grandma this morning and she said that her mom would make them for her when she was little. Then she started making them for my mom and aunt when they were little. And then my mom and aunt started making them for us when we were little.

I’ve tried making them for my little people.
Several times.
But
they just
never
EVER
turn out.
Boo!

Sadly this is not the year I get to celebrate victory over my hot cross buns battle.
I tried again today
and
failed.
Miserably.
I have no idea what my problem is.

It makes me sad.
IF my mom was still here I would call her and have her come over and make them with me.
Sigh.
Maybe she can show me in heaven’s oven when we meet again…

So, after yet another failed attempt
I decided to try a new tradition.
(still won’t give up on those hot cross buns, but figured i needed a little pick me up. I mean come on, the effort it takes to make homemade buns and then not have them turn out is just sad.)

So today, I also tried Challah Bread.

{Homemade} Crayons

April 21, 2011 by Sara Haynes 8 Comments

Raise your hand if you have a big pile of crayons that look like these in your house:
Perfect.
Don’t throw them out!
Instead, let’s bring them to life again.

I love Jesus, my guy Chris + our four. We seek joy. Homeschool. Adventure together. Mess up and start again.

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."

Ok friends! This is your personal invitation to ju Ok friends! This is your personal invitation to jump in with me to read through your Bible in a year. I know that for me, the years I’ve had a “plan” have been the years I have most consistently spent daily quiet time with Jesus.

The plan I’m following has a portion of the Old Testament, Psalm, Proverb and New Testament to read each day. And it’ll be the best 10 mins you spend each day! 💗 You do not need the specific bible I’m using, I’ll have the readings posted so you can use whatever you have!

If I’ve learned anything in 2020 it’s that I long for community. Yes, I can read through on my own this year.... but how much richer would it be to do this with friends. The bible tells us “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”

I know I have experienced God in amazing ways through the words & experiences of friends. We were made for community!

SO-I’ve created a private FB group for us to have the space to encourage, share and find accountability as we dig into God’s word in 2021!

Would love for you to join me. 💗

Pretty to look at, sure, but I like to see when I’m skiing. 🤷‍♀️
A brand new bible for a brand new year. Chris and A brand new bible for a brand new year. Chris and the kids all use YouVersion for their bible plans but I am partial to a physical book- just something about feeling those pages as I read.
If anyone wants to join me please send me a message! I’d love to spend 2021 in the word with you! 💗

Our first Christmas together in the mountains. ❤ Our first Christmas together in the mountains. ❤️
This moment. I look forward to it every year. Ever This moment. I look forward to it every year. Everyone else is in bed while I sit here in the dark- with only the light from the tree. My heart is so full of anticipation. Wonder. Joy.

I always think of that first Christmas night while I sit here by the glow of the tree and see the gifts under its branches. I think of all those years ago on that eve of our Jesus’ birth. I imagine how all of heaven must have felt the same as I do tonight- KNOWING the gift we were about to receive on that wonderful night. Dear friends, may all our souls feel their worth tonight as we remember who HE is.
💗

Oh holy night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error, pining
'Til He appeared and the soul felt it's worth
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn'
Fall on your knees, oh, hear the Angels' voices
Oh, night divine, oh, night when Christ was born
Oh, night divine, oh, night, oh night divine
